BORAH’s Vision for Change for the Better

The Beginning of Rehabilitation and Hope (BORAH } is a nonprofit organization working to restore health for all people by empowering and serving the poorest communities and getting help for the population vulnerable to HIV, providing them with a HEALING PLACE and HOPE for the future.

Vision:

At BORAH our dream is to serve one person at a time, and give hope to the population we serve. The Beginning of Rehabilitation and Hope (BORAH ) is committed to excellence in improving the health of people living in the poorest communities, especially mothers and children. In the Communities we serve Homeless Youth living with HIV and related problems will thrive, and HIV infections will be rare.  Quality and safety drive our vision, which is propelled by the best people dedicated to our objectives

 Objectives:

  • Provide Help for Rape victims
  • Help our elderly population
  • Make family planning accessible for women in child bearing age
  • Improve lives of mothers or women with obstetric fistula
  • Help Youth with disabilities gain access to health care and education
  • Improving lives of homeless(street youth) population
  • Educating the next generation of health professionals and Host seminars (provide brochures and educative materials)
  • Ensuring sufficient assets to support our mission and vision though disciplined stewardship of activities

Program Area for which funds are requested:

  • Services for the Rape victims, i.e. HIV testing, pregnancy test and Counseling
  • Help for our elderly population
  • Help provide formal  education/career development  in poorest population
  • Implementing HIV & HCV Screening in Community Health Centers/Clinical Settings
  • Make HIV and HCV treatment accessible to poorest communities
  • Help Establish testing schedules/timelines for events with outreach programs
  • Establish testing schedules/timelines with University Residence Life
  • HIV prevention education  in universities and colleges

Target Population(s)

1) Residents of the Eastern and Northern parts of Uganda and parts of South Africa, which includes but is not limited to;

  • Provide health services to the Rape victims such as psychological services, HIV and STD testing and linkage to treatment
  • Provide help for women (with obstetric fistula) and children
  • Help for our elderly population access health
  • Provide help to Youth ages from 13 to 26 years, Homeless population and Injection drug users

2) Individuals in Eastern and Northern parts of Uganda HIV (-), that are high risk of sexually acquired HIV infection Women (with obstetric fistula) and children

  • Help for our elderly population
  • Youth ages from 13 to 26 years
  • Homeless population and Injection drug users

Our Organizational Structure

To meet these goals we have set up and responsible and transparent tructure that works sees to the efficient running of the organization.

Governance and Senior Staff

Volunteer governance members play a key role in the direction of BORAH”S international outreach  services . These groups include

    • BORAH’s :Council of Representatives, which has the sole authority to approve policy and appropriate the organization’s revenue
    • .Board of Directors, elected by the membership to be the administrative agent of the Council of Representatives.
    • BORAH President, elected annually by the membership to serve as the face of the association.Committees, boards and task forces, which focus on particular issues in the field.
    • Executive Management Group: made up of the Administrative Manager, Director of Communications and Program Manager which oversees BORAH’s daily operations from the headquarters in Boston, MA.
    • Staff: Under the Executive Group are the staff that carry out the day to day operations.
